Vinacomin – Mining Geology Joint Stock Company has a long history of operation, especially in Quang Ninh and the Delta River. Since the Geological Division 9 was transferred to the Ministry of Energy and the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources was set up, subsidiaries of this department barely carried out any coal mining activities. Such mining activities are performed by Vinacomin – Mining Geology Joint Stock Company and some survey units under the Ministry of Energy. As of Dec 2016, it is a subsidiary of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group.
