The total passenger output through airports reached more than 54 million passengers in the first six months of this year, equal to 97 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV).
In terms of the domestic market alone, Vietnamese airlines transported more than 17 million domestic passengers in the past six months, equal to 82 per cent compared to the same period in last year.
Due to difficulties in aircraft fleets, airlines have had to adjust and reduce supply on domestic routes, which is why the domestic market decreased compared to the same period last year and 2019.
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are the two airlines with the largest domestic market shares with 42 per cent and 44 per cent, respectively, followed by Bamboo Airways (7 per cent), Vietravel Airlines (3 per cent), Pacific Airlines and Vasco (4 per cent).
The seat utilisation ratio on domestic routes has been maintained at over 80 per cent and on international routes at over 70 per cent.
If the domestic market declines in output, the international market is the bright spot in air transport results. In the first six months of this year, more than 20 million international passengers travelled, up 38 per cent year-on-year.
Vietnamese airlines transported nearly nine million international passengers in the past six months, a year-on-year growth of 28 per cent, accounting for 44 per cent of the international passenger transport market share.
Of which, the market shares of Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are 17.8 per cent and 24.5 per cent, respectively.
The output of goods through the airport reached more than 721,000 tonnes in the first six months, up 26 per cent year-on-year. More than 228,000 tonnes of domestic goods passed through the aiport and 492,000 tonnes of international goods. — VNS
